Vogal’s commercial electrical services work is often about overcoming unexpected difficulties and finding resolutions for problems faced by our customers. We like to refer to these as the "challenge of the day". Recently we was contacted by a commercial customer in the health sector. A new critical health facility was about to open. However, the High Voltage Ring Main Unit had been hit by a car. Therefore, as the main supply was unavailable, a temporary Generator supply was being used. There was still an issue, as the inrush of power when the lifts were operated, was knocking the Generator set out.
Vogal Group was challenged with installing a permanent supply to two lifts in the new facility. However, the work needed to be done quickly due to the imminent opening date. We immediately attended the site, scoped out a solution and deployed one of our commercial electrical teams to implement the following solution:
- 200 metres of new cable was laid, initially above ground.
- Underground ducts, to the new building, were exposed by hand excavation.
- The cable was then pulled through the underground ducts to the building’s switch room and a new temporary distribution board installed for the lift circuits.
- Lift circuits were disconnected and a temporary junction box, to terminate the existing cables, installed.
- New cables from the junction box to the new temporary distribution board were then installed.
- The earthing for the facility was segregated from the earthing for the generator set, ensuring no connection on the generator side.
- All signage completed with contact details, etc.
- Test certificates for the works dompleted.
- All phase rotations were checked and passed by the customer.
- The lift engineer examined the test results and approved the lifts for service.
This commercial electrical services work was scoped, started, completed and handed back to the customer within 2 days. This ensured the new facility could begin operating on the planned date, without delay. The customer provided the following feedback: “Brilliant, please thank your team for their hard work at such short notice.”
