Engineering Apprenticeship Completed

10 February 2026

It’s National Apprenticeship Week Day 2. A week-long celebration that brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

George Lane excelled in the Vogal Group engineering apprenticeship programme. He is a metal fabricator having recently completed his apprenticeship with Vogal Group and the College of West Anglia. After leaving school, he completed a HND in public services and funded his learning by working as a part-time store assistant in Sainsbury’s. George enjoys physical work and concluded that his work aspirations would not be met by pursuing a career in public service. He joined us as a mechanical engineering apprentice. However, he had an unfortunate start, in his first year, with the closure of his first technical college. He had to start again elsewhere. This meant a longer apprenticeship, and a delay in becoming qualified. George showed great tenacity in sticking with his ambition to become qualified.

George has been working on many major projects including the installation of new evaporators in a sugar processing facility. He also worked on a large project to install a new water filtration plant in the environmental services sector. George made a significant contribution to this large fabrication and welding project. He positioned and installed equipment, often with cranes, and fitted steel structures, such as tanks, platforms and pipe rack. He also fabricated pipe supports and positioned and welded prefabricated pipes.

Now George has completed his apprenticeship his immediate aspiration is to further consolidate his engineering abilities. He is definitely interested in becoming a team leader and is already running small jobs.
