Vogal Group completed a heavy-duty mechanical installation for a major UK food manufacturer. This work formed part of a multi-million-pound investment toward Net Zero and involved the mechanical integration of energy-saving evaporator technology. We were appointed to deliver the specialist industrial mechanical services for this critical infrastructure project. This wasn’t just about heavy lifting; it was about precision engineering at scale:
Our Approach: Precision & Validation
Before boots hit the ground, we prioritised rigorous technical validation:
- Weld Code Development: Established new weld procedure and weld codes for the main evaporator joints.
- Verification Procedures: To ensure absolute integrity, we developed a tube-flaring procedure. Test sections were flared into a pre-bored plate and sent to France for independent pull testing to validate our methodology.
Technical Execution & Heavy Lifting
Once equipment arrived on-site, working with our customer's project team, we handled the full installation lifecycle:
- Precision Positioning: Using a 450t main crane and 60t tailing crane, the unit bases were positioned, lined, and levelled.
- Structural Integration: We executed the sequential lifting and alignment of the main tube nests. While our teams completed full-penetration welding on the first unit, we simultaneously aligned and tack-welded units two and three to maintain a lean project timeline.
- Quality Assurance: All primary welds underwent Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to guarantee structural integrity.
