We recently completed a manufacturing improvement project in the pharmaceutical sector. The purpose of this pipework installation project was to upgrade an existing system and increase the productive capacity of production lines. The deadline was aggressive, and we needed to work weekends, bank holidays to make sure we met the target. We also benefited from the support of several of our approved suppliers to help achieve this. Our Contracts Manager, provided the customer with a single point of contact, ensuring milestones and KPIs were met. He utilised our robust M&E project management methodology and provided a pragmatic activity plan. This approach allowed him to maintain strict control over scope, schedule, risks, and costs.
Project key points:
☑️ Asbestos survey completed due to the age of the pipework and the potential for asbestos gaskets.
☑️ Installation of a parallel filter system on existing chemical delivery lines to provide a dual filter system.
☑️ Existing galvanised steel pipework to x10 in-situ chemical storage tanks was replaced with new stainless steel SS316 pipework.
☑️ Pipework was completed to the ASME B31.3 standard.
☑️ NDT was an important feature (100% dye pen, 30% radiography and 100% pneumatic pressure test to 1.25 design pressure).
☑️ New bottom valves, crucial for ensuring complete drainage and preventing contamination in chemical storage tanks, were also fitted.
☑️ All installed devices were ATEX compliant, and fire rated.
☑️ Health & Safety performance was very good, as we completed 845 workshop and 900 on-site labour-hours, without accidents.
